Salesforce Marketing Cloud Next: What the Rebuild Changes, and What to Do Now

If you run marketing on Salesforce, you have probably heard that the platform is being rebuilt and wondered whether you are about to be forced through a painful migration. The short answer is no. Salesforce Marketing Cloud Next is a real re-platforming, but Salesforce is framing it as convergence rather than a cutover, and it has not announced an end-of-life for the product you run today. Here is what actually changes, and what is worth doing now.

What Marketing Cloud Next actually is

The real change is architectural. Legacy Marketing Cloud Engagement grew out of ExactTarget and runs on its own separate infrastructure, syncing data to and from your CRM in batches. Marketing Cloud Next, which Salesforce also calls Agentforce Marketing, is rebuilt directly on the Salesforce core and on Data 360, the platform Salesforce previously called Data Cloud.

The practical effect is that the connectors which used to sit between your marketing data and your CRM data go away. Your marketer and your sales team work from the same customer record, in real time, instead of two systems kept roughly in step by overnight syncs. A note on names: Salesforce has been rolling this out in stages, not all at once, so you will see overlapping labels in the wild. Focus on the architecture, core plus Data 360, rather than the branding.

What Dreamforce 2026 added

The headline addition is agentic marketing. Salesforce’s Winter ’27 release notes list a Campaign Creation Agent for Marketing Cloud Next, alongside self-optimising campaigns powered by Agentforce, built to create and refine campaigns inside the goals, guardrails and brand guidelines you set. Features roll out across a release, so treat any single date as a target and check the release notes for what is live in your org.

Because Next sits on Data 360, the same governed customer data is available to agents. Salesforce’s Data 360 Marketing Agent, for example, builds segments and activates audiences from a natural-language description, with your permissions still applied. It is the same direction as AIforce: the platform becoming something a trusted agent can reach.

Do you have to migrate? Not yet

This is the question most teams actually have. As it stands, Salesforce has published no end-of-life, no end-of-sale and no forced-migration date for Marketing Cloud Engagement, and it describes the move as convergence rather than a cutover. Industry coverage also points to hybrid options for reaching Next’s capabilities without a full re-platform, so it is worth asking your Salesforce account team which path fits you.

You also do not have to sit still while you wait. The groundwork that matters most, getting your customer data clean and unified on Data 360, pays off on either product and is the prerequisite for the agentic features when you adopt them. So the honest framing is this: no panic and no rip-and-replace, but a clear direction of travel, with new investment flowing to Next.

What to actually do now

Get your data foundation right. Next runs on Data 360, and agentic marketing is only ever as good as the data beneath it. If your customer data is fragmented across systems, that is the work to start on, because it is the prerequisite for everything else and it pays off whichever path you take. It is the same lesson as the five things your data needs before Agentforce.

Clean and unify, do not just connect. The whole point of Next is removing the connector layer. Moving onto it with duplicated, inconsistent records only makes the same mess real-time, which is why we insist on clean data before any agent goes live.

Pilot the agentic pieces where the risk is low. You can trial agent-assisted segmentation and campaign drafting on Engagement today, learn what governance you need, and carry that into Next rather than discovering it later.

Plan, do not lurch. Agree a horizon with your stakeholders rather than reacting to each announcement. The teams that do well treat this as a deliberate programme, not a fire drill.

How we help

We are not a marketing agency, and we will say so plainly. What we do is the Salesforce engineering underneath agentic marketing. We build a clean, unified data foundation on Data 360, and the AI enablement and Agentforce work that makes a Campaign Agent trustworthy. And we plan a migration that moves you without breaking what already works. We work AI-native, we absorb our own token and compute cost, and a certified Salesforce engineer reviews every change before it ships.
